Community Services
The Los Angeles Southwest College Community Service Extension Program is dedicated to offering non-credit self-improvement and workforce development courses to help you better navigate your life on the job and at home.
Participants include business and nonprofit employees, retirees, entrepreneurs and caregivers seeking parenting skills. We also offer youth programs that begin as early as kindergarten.
Here's an overview of our offerings:
Career Enrichment: Designed for rapid training for jobs and careers of an independent nature where a labor market demand exists. A student can learn to build a business or gain hands-on experience major employers are looking for.
Some offerings: Notary and Loan Signing Agent, Medical and Insurance Billing, Food Handler, American Home Inspectors Training, Videography, Developing Your Film/TV Project, Developing a Business Plan.
Workforce Development: Our professional development programs, offered evenings and on weekends, are designed to expand career skills or transition into new careers. The objective is to provide training where there's an established labor demand and put the student on a fast track to higher earnings.
Examples: Negotiation Skills; English, Literacy and Civics; Conversational Spanish Workshop; Computer Graphics and Design Certificate; Health Management and Leadership Certificate.
Online Classes: You can attend college-level courses from virtually anywhere with an Internet connection; just log-in once class begins. Online courses are a great way to further your education, even earn certificates, with the convenience that accommodates your busy lifestyle.
Physical Development: These offerings promote wellness, improved health and fun: CPR, Holistic Health, Salsa Dancing, Hip Hop Jazzercise, Senior Swim Day.
Parenting Classes: These classes are for foster parents and potential foster parents, relative caregivers, social workers and other members of the community who are involved in helping abused and neglected children.
Youth Education: After-school, weekend and Saturday programs for students, with academic, social, and physical enrichment throughout the year. Examples: SAT Prep, the Young Scholars Summer Youth Program and Using Technology in the Classroom
